Having an effective strength training routine in place is important to leaning out and gaining muscle, but have you ever thought that what you’re eating after your workouts is almost just as important? The post-workout snacks and meals are the basic building blocks to what your body can achieve. You can rip your muscle fibers to shreds but not get as far as you’d like gain-wise simply because you are not eating the right type of foods at the right times.

Hands down, the best post-workout snack is a protein shake. Taken as a liquid form, the protein source will be able to penetrate your bloodstream faster thus being able to be transported directly to the muscles very quickly. This will help in the recovery process, both by providing the fuel to rebuild the muscle faster but also helping prevent extreme delayed muscle soreness. Here are a variety of different types of protein shakes with differing ingredients based upon your individual goals.

    Banana-Chocolate treat:
    1 banana
1 scoop whey protein powder, chocolate flavored
    8 oz. skim milk
    Optional: 1 tbsp peanut butter

    Green Tea Protein Shake:
1 oz. cup of chilled green tea
1 scoop whey protein powder, unflavored
    Half of a tsp cinnamon
Half of a cup of applesauce
    Optional: 1 tbsp flaxseed

    Berry Blast:
    8 oz. of skim milk
1 – 2 cups of berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries)
1 scoop of whey protein powder, unflavored

    Peaches and Cream:
    8 oz. of skim milk
    1 cup of sliced peaches
    1 tsp vanilla extract
Half of a cup of vanilla yogurt, sugar free
    Splash of orange juice
1 scoop of protein powder, unflavored

    Pina Colada:
    8 oz. skim milk
Half of a cup of pineapple chunks
1 tbsp coconut extract, or cup coconut milk
1 scoop of whey protein powder, unflavored

    Chocolate Raspberry:
    8 oz. skim milk
    1 cup of raspberries
    2 tsp cocoa powder
1 scoop of whey protein powder, unflavored or chocolate flavored
    Optional: 1 tbsp peanut butter

When making any of these protein shakes, be sure to add the liquid first into the blender and then the other ingredients on top to ensure proper and consistent blending.

Make sure to have your protein shake immediately after your workout and no longer than 45 minutes after your final set. It is important to get the protein into your body as soon as possible because there is a small window of opportunity for roughly 45 minutes after you finished your last set which helps and maximizes recovery time.

  • Simple Recipe For Cooking Pork Hocks

Comments Off on Simple Recipe For Cooking Pork Hocks
    April 6, 2021 /  Chef and Recipes

Pork hocks are extremely delicious as they hold a strong flavor within it. If it is boiled or braised with its skin and bones on, the tasty salty tasting flavor of the meat can seep out into whatever green ingredients you are cooking it with. In fact, they can go with most vegetables and beans as the flavor from the pork hocks complements the slightly bitter taste of the vegetables and beans. If you are wondering how to cook pork hocks, here is a simple way to do it.

First of all, prepare all the vegetables you would like to serve with the pork hock. You can use any green vegetable, like celery, leek, and cabbage, or other vegetables like navy beans, carrot, and onions. Most vegetable you use will go well with pork hocks, so it is really up to you. Whichever they are, dice them up into squares, and make sure they are the same size so that they will be cooked evenly.

In the meantime, fill up a large pot with water, and add the pork hocks, black peppercorns, some salt, and vegetables into the pot. Cook it for about two to three hours over medium heat, but make sure the pork hocks are not overcooked or they will become extremely tough. After that, you can take out all the pork hocks from the boiling water, and drain out the excess water. However, do keep the gravy where the vegetables were cooked in as well as the vegetables. Then, have your oven preheated to 425?F. Using a cast iron pan greased with vegetable shortening, place the vegetables and the pork hocks on it, as well as some of the gravy made earlier onto the pan. Then, leave them to bake for half an hour. During the wait, always check to see that the gravy does dry out. Whenever it looks like it is drying out, pour more of the liquid in. You can also add some beer, or plain water mixed with salt to the gravy, depending on which you would prefer.

Once the half hour is up, check to see if the meat is thoroughly cooked. If it is cooked, then you may serve it with the vegetables and gravy on a platter. You might also want to serve it with potatoes, sauerkraut, bread, dumplings, rice, or anything at all you think might complement the dish. You may also want to strain some of the earlier cooked gravy from the pot and pour it onto a sauce plate to use as a dip. Serve them while they are still hot. This recipe one of the simpler versions on how to cook pork hocks.

  • Beverage- Soft Drinks, Soda- Origin And History

Comments Off on Beverage- Soft Drinks, Soda- Origin And History
    April 5, 2021 /  Chef and Recipes

The History of cabonated soft drinks which are an important beverage today, can be traced back to the mineral water from natural springs. The bubbles in spring water emanate as a result of carbon dioxide. This phenomenon was the basis of invention of fizzy soft drinks, like coke.

The first drink [non carbonated] to be ever marketed, probably appeared in the 17th century [1600-1700 AD], in France. It was basically water sweetened with honey, with a dash of lime. In India too, a version of this drink, called Nimbu-Paani, has been in existence for a considerable length of time.

First man-made carbonated drink [carbonated water] was made by Priestley in 1767, in his lab. The process of carbonation of water was later automated for commercial production by Mr. Torbern Bergman, who invented an apparatus for production of large quantities of carbonated water using chalk and acid.

The first patent in USA for manufacture of imitation mineral water was issued in 1810 to Simons and Rundell. In 1832, John Mathews invented an apparatus for the making carbonated water. This apparatus was a great hit amongst soda fountain owners. Drinking Mineral water [natural or man-made], was considered to be good for health. Thus, manufacturers started to flavor the mineral water with herbs and spices. The first flavored carbonated soft drink is believed to have been made by Doctor Philip Syng Physick, in 1807. Thus, soda fountains became a popular part of culture. The customers soon wanted to take their “health” drinks home, which was the beginning of the bottling of a soft drink. Gradually, soft-drink bottling industry grew from consumer demand.

    The Soft Drink Bottling Industry

Carbonated soft drink bottles are under a lot of pressure from the carbon di-oxide gas. It was important to retain the soluble gas within drink for the drink to be fizzy. Thus, inventors were trying to find the best way to do so. In 1892, the “Crown Cork Bottle Seal” was patented by William Painter, which was a very successful way to prevent the gas from escaping.

In 1899, the first patent was issued for a glass-blowing machine. Within a few years, glass bottle production increased from 1,500 bottles a day to 57,000 bottles a day.

    Home-Packs and Vending Machines

During the 1920s, the first “Home-Paks” and automatic vending machines began to appear on the market

    Ingredients

    7-8 cups of cooked rice.

Remember Japanese rice cookers steam rice a little differently to boiling it in a bot.
    Vegetable oil (for frying)
4 pork chops without bones, pounded thin (about 1-1.5cm)
    Salt & Pepper for seasoning

    Coating (for the pork cuts)

1-2 cups of Panko (Japanese Breadcrumbs)
    3 tablespoons flour

    6 tablespoons Sugar
4 tablespoons Mirin (Japanese Rice Wine used for cooking)
    3 -4 eggs, beaten

1 cup Dashi broth or 1 cup Water
    Directions:

Pour vegetable oil about 1-inch deep in frying pan or wok and heat to 170C or until a few breadcrumbs dropped into the middle of the oil surface immediately.

If it’s not already Trim the fat off the pork and pound it to the desired thickness (1-1.5cm)

Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Dust first with flour, and then dip into the beaten egg, then into the panko crumbs.

Fry in the oil until light brown-this should take 3-4 minutes.

Drain on paper towels and then cut into 2-3cm strips.
Mix the broth ingredients together in a bowl.

Then heat about 25% of the broth in a separate skillet, bringing it just to a boil.

Add the slices of 1 pork cutlet and cook for one minute.

When the broth has fully coated the cutlet, pour one portion of the beaten eggs into the skillet and stir.

If you like your greens add a portion of green peas and cook for 30 seconds more.

Place one serving of rice into a bowl (preferably a deep bowl, then remove the cutlet and egg mixture from the skillet and place over the rice.

Repeat this for each of the remaining desired servings.
